What causes male hair loss/baldness?
Male hair loss is a prevalent condition that many men will encounter as they age. Approximately 50% of men will experience some level of hair loss by the time they reach 50 years old.
Hair follicles generally produce a single strand of hair for a period of 2 to 6 years. After this cycle, the hair falls out, making way for a new hair to grow from the same follicle. Over time, hair loss can occur as the effectiveness of stem cells, which play a crucial role in this hair growth cycle, diminishes. Additionally, a male hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) can contribute to hair loss by causing the hair follicles to shrink, impeding their ability to generate new hairs.
